Jan Linder, MD, PhD
Command Flight Surgeon, Swedish Armed Forces
Born: March 8, 1949.
Col Linder was trained as a pilot in the Swedish Air Force. He
has flown trainers and fighters. He is currently flying the
SAAB 105 and the JA 37 Viggen on a monthly basis as a pilot
physician. He has logged a little more than 1000 flying hours
of which he has more than 500 hrs on Draken and Viggen.
He entered Medical School at Uppsala University and earned his
MD in 1978. He has a PhD in Physiology with a thesis concerning
regulation of the cerebral and ocular blood flow(1981).
He is board certified in General Surgery since 1987.
Col Linder was trained as a flight surgeon in the Swedish Air
Force and returned to active duty in 1987 as Deputy Command
Flight Surgeon. He was promoted to Command Flight Surgeon in
1989.
He is a 1992 graduate from the Advanced Aerospace Medicine for
International Medical Officers at the School of Aerospace
Medicine, Brooks AFB, TX, USA.
As Command Flight Surgeon he is responsible for all military
aeromedical matters in Sweden.
In the new organisation of the Swedish Armed Forces he is also
Head of the Aeromedical Centre located in Stockholm.
He has been actively taking part in the development of the new
Tactical Flight Combat Suit of the JAS 39 Gripen A/C.
He is chairman of the Swedish Aero-Nautical Medical Association.
He is a Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association and a
member of the International Academy of Aerospace Medicine.
He is married to Marianne also a doctor and plastic surgeon.
They have 4 children.
